History of the Mexican Flag
Día de la Bandera ("Flag Day") is a national holiday in Mexico. Flag Day is celebrated every year on February 24 since its implementation in 1937. It was established by the President of Mexico, General Lázaro Cárdenas, before the monument to General Vicente Guerrero, first to pledge allegiance to the Mexican flag on March 12, 1821.
The tumultuous history of Mexico is very well reflected in the transformations of its flag. Ever since the War of Independence, Mexicans have used numerous symbols to convey their indomitable commitment to the autonomy and unity of the country. Evidently, the strongest and dearest symbols are proudly displayed on the national flag.
